Some souls are just older, man. I can totally empathize with some guy that just ain't getting his toddlers' behaviors. Too flabby headed, too tired, whatever. Yeah. Hopefully you saw him in one of his dumpier moments and not one of his better.

In my more generous moments, I can empathize, too. I really wasn't trying to trash him — I was really aiming for a "joke's on (this) Dad" vibe.

I know that this is true!

I think if I'd opted to give this piece a little more time, I might have done a little thinking about why a) I was so quick to peg this guy's hamhanded parenting on age and b) why I became quite so invested in proving that he was younger than I am.

your 'point' makes for good humor, i guess, but try revisiting this when he is 65 and retired and he has 2 or 3 teenagers....maybe YOU will have attained some wisdom and more patience/empathy by then :.D

other than that, i really like your writing which i just discovered in the Penn Gazette this day
